Chapter 1 Welcome Home
The first goal is safety and steadiness. Give your pet time to decompress, establish predictable routines and allow trust to build without pressure.
Family activity
Create a quiet rest area, a feeding schedule and a short list of baseline observations.
Remember
Sudden behavior, appetite or health changes should be discussed with a veterinarian.
Chapter 2 Whole-Food Foundations
Learn to recognize ingredients, introduce dietary changes gradually and observe appetite, stool, hydration, energy and comfort.
Family activity
Read your pet’s current food label together and record the primary protein, fiber and feeding instructions.
Chapter 3 Preventive Care
Build a relationship with a veterinarian and keep a calendar for vaccinations, exams, parasite prevention and prescribed medications.
Family activity
Prepare questions before appointments and keep all care information in one family record.
Chapter 4 Skin, Coat and Allergies
Track patterns carefully. Itching, licking, ear discomfort or coat changes can have many causes and require professional evaluation.
Family activity
Use a weekly observation log without changing several things at once.
Chapter 5 Behavior and Community
Enrichment, safe movement, clear boundaries and patient socialization help new pets feel secure. Children should always be taught respectful pet interaction.
Family activity
Choose three calm enrichment activities and identify two trusted community resources.
Chapter 6 A Lifetime Wellness Plan
Review what changed over six months and turn the lessons into a sustainable plan for food, veterinary care, activity, connection and continued observation.
Graduation activity
Complete the final report and knowledge check, then write a one-year care plan for your family and pet.
